      Our offer

Thanks to the financial support we receive from funders and commissioners, we are delighted to offer funded MELVA licences (worth £1,300) free of charge to state-funded schools across the country.

This offer is made on the condition that all evaluation activities are completed in full and uploaded to the digital portal.

      Why we need evaluation data:

The evaluation tools embedded into MELVA – and the impact data they provide – are how we show these funders and commissioners the difference it makes. That impact data is what encourages their ongoing support, which in turn helps us to keep offering it free or at a discounted rate to schools.

This data also gives our MELVA schools a simple, visual picture of how their students’ understanding grows across the programme, and the positive impact taking part in MELVA can have – great for sharing with senior leaders, governors, parents, and OFSTED.

*All funded licences are subject to a £50 administration fee each academic year.

      Paid licence

Fee-paying schools can sign up for a MELVA licence at £1,300 per academic year.

If you’d like to talk it through first, book a free discovery call with our team.

      Licence terms & conditions

MELVA Licence — Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to all MELVA licences. Where a term applies only to funded or paid licences, this is stated; all other terms apply to both.

      1. Licence Overview

      • Covers one school site for one academic year (1 September – 31 August) and is not transferable between schools or trusts. Schools choose which academic year to start in at sign-up — e.g. registering in June may mean starting the following academic year.
      • Licences are available as either:
        • Funded licences – a £50 admin fee per year, with the rest covered by our commissioners and sponsors. Conditional on evaluation activities being completed and submitted in full (Sections 3–4).
        • Paid licences – £1,300 per year, invoiced on confirmation. Engagement is entirely at the school’s discretion — no evaluation chasing or revocation (Section 4).
      • Grace period: if you sign up and then decide not to proceed, we’ll recall the invoice if notified in writing within 2 weeks of it being issued. After that, it remains payable in full.
      • Portal login details must not be shared outside the school’s staff team.

      2. What Your Licence Includes

      • Full access to the digital programme begins on your registration date, or 1 September of your selected academic year if later (e.g. registering in the summer term for the following year means access starts that 1 September). Access runs until 31 August of the selected year, then renews automatically each year (Section 6).
      • Access to all your evaluation data at any time via your school’s Data Hub on the portal. We reserve the right to use evaluation data in our funding applications and reporting; individual children are never named.
      • Ongoing support from the MELVA Team, including 1:1 calls.
      • On-demand CPD videos, live digital sessions, and in-person training days
      • Opportunities to connect with other MELVA schools to discuss experiences and common issues around mental health and wellbeing.

      3. School Responsibilities (Funded Licences)

The school is responsible for making full use of the funded licence, and must designate at least one Lead MELVA Contact, responsible for:

      • Ensuring at least one full MELVA Intervention is delivered to at least one full class or group.
      • Ensuring all evaluation activities are completed and submitted via the portal (see evaluation guidance).
      • Sharing communications and login details with delivery staff.
      • Ensuring the school is represented at key MELVA training sessions, in person or by delegation.
      • Informing the MELVA Team of personnel changes that may affect delivery.
      • Contacting the MELVA Team about anything that may affect the school’s ability to participate.

Paid licences: engagement with the above is entirely at the school’s discretion — see Section 1.

      4. Deferral and Revoking of Funded Licences

      • If delivery isn’t feasible in a given year due to unavoidable circumstances, we may agree, after discussion, to defer your licence to the following year (subject to sponsor/funder agreement).
      • If we receive no response from your school for 3 months or more, we may revoke the funded licence, and your school may become ineligible for funded licences in future.

Applies to funded licences only — paid licences are not monitored or revoked for non-engagement.

      5. Intellectual Property

The MELVA Programme is developed by, and remains the property of, Mortal Fools. Schools agree not to:

      • Share login details outside the school.
      • Duplicate or distribute MELVA materials.
      • Continue using MELVA materials after the licence ends.

      6. Auto-Renewal and Fees

      • Licences renew automatically each year on 1 September, unless you notify the MELVA Team by email (melva@mortalfools.org.uk) by 1 August. Renewal and fee reminders are sent in advance.
      • Funded licences: the £1,300 programme cost is covered by our commissioners and sponsors; you’re responsible for the £50 annual admin fee, which may rise with 3 months’ notice before your renewal date.
      • If paying by card, payment is taken automatically on 1 September; if it fails, you have 30 days to pay before your account is suspended.
      • If paying by invoice, it’s issued on or after 1 September, with 28-day payment terms.
      • Suspension and reactivation: portal access is automatically suspended if payment becomes overdue, until payment is received.
